Turmeric is the yellow powder found in curry
powder. It contains curcumin, a
substance which gives turmeric its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Besides that, it also has cardiovascular
benefits and lowers cancer risk.
In order
for our body to properly absorb curcumin into the bloodstream, turmeric has to
be consumed with black pepper and some form of fats. Black pepper contains piperine, a substance
which enhances the absorption of curcumin.
Since, cucumin is also fat soluble, turmeric has to be consumed with healthy
fats , eg nuts and seeds, avocado or coconut oil.

Also, gentle cooking not only doesn't degrade the medicinal properties of turmeric, it enhances its bioavailability.
